My Method

Learning a language is not simply about memorising vocabulary lists or applying grammar rules.

My goal is to help you understand, speak, write and interact in French with greater confidence, accuracy and naturalness.

For more than 17 years, I have worked with learners of all levels and with very different goals: professional French, exam preparation, international mobility, academic studies, medical and professional communication, conversation, or simply becoming more comfortable using French in everyday life.

My teaching approach is communicative, personalised and structured, informed by current research into language learning and the way memory works.

Recent research in cognitive science and the neuroscience of learning highlights the importance of active retrieval, spaced repetition and regular practice for long-term learning. Research into language learning also supports the value of actively engaging learners with the language rather than relying solely on explanations or passive exposure.

That is why my lessons are not simply about exposing you to a lot of French.

I encourage you to retrieve, reuse, manipulate and apply what you have learned in different contexts.

The goal is to gradually move from:

“I recognise this word / grammar rule.”

to:

“I can use it spontaneously when I need it.”

A language is first and foremost a tool for communication.

As soon as your level allows, we use French as the main language of the lesson. Even when we are working on grammar or vocabulary, the ultimate goal is to be able to use them in a real-life situation.

I therefore prioritise:

• authentic conversation;

• questions and answers;

• role-plays;

• professional scenarios;

• discussions and debates;

• describing and interpreting documents;

• everyday situations;

• tasks adapted to your goals;

• authentic materials such as articles, videos, images, professional documents and audio extracts.

This communicative approach focuses not only on what you know in French, but above all on what you can actually do with the language.

There is no single way to learn a language.

Your French should reflect your life, your work and your needs.

Before choosing activities, I take the time to understand:

• your current level;

• your language-learning background;

• your difficulties;

• your strengths;

• your goals;

• the situations in which you need to use French;

• your interests;

• the way you learn best.

A healthcare professional who needs to communicate with French-speaking patients will have very different needs from a student preparing for an exam, a manager working with a French-speaking team, or an expat who simply wants to feel more comfortable in everyday French.

Your lessons are therefore adapted to your profile and objectives, rather than following a rigid, one-size-fits-all programme.
